High-Performance Plastics are valued overall for their excellent properties. High-performance plastics are typically defined as being plastics that not only withstand but perform in extreme environments including, very high to very low temperatures, high pressure or high velocity and more.
Back-up Rings Back-up rings are the most common anti-extrusion devices used in dynamic and static sealing, designed to prevent the sealing material into the extrusion gap under the system pressure. One Team offers a wide range of back-up ring shapes and materials to suit every seal type and application.
PTFE is the most chemically inert of the sealing materials. It is resistant to most chemicals including acids, bases, oils, and steam. PTFE is a very tough material, offering outstanding tear resistance and abrasion resistance. This material’s slippery surface properties make it advantageous for sealing in moving systems such as mass spectrometer probes and valves.

While these materials do not have the higher temperature resistance profiles typically seen in the high performance or engineering categories, general industrial plastics still offer several significant advantages that other design materials do not.
Industrial Plastic upper temperature resistance limit should not exceed 185ºF.
ABS, PPS, PP, PMP and PE
The property profile of a plastic can be selectively altered by introducing additives or fillers designed to achieve specific characteristics. The resulting plastic compounds allow for different (usually increased) thermal, mechanical, and electrical, or other characteristics to be enhanced beyond what is typically seen in the unmodified base polymer.
